What to write about

Conversion bugs (highest priority). If the calculator produces a mode your shell disagrees with — a symbolic clause that resolves differently, an ls -l string parsed wrong, a special bit that shouldn’t appear — send us the input, what the tool showed, and what chmod/ls -l actually did on your system. Please name your platform (GNU/Linux, macOS, BSD, busybox, WSL): a real chunk of chmod behavior differs between them, and “correct” sometimes means “correct on GNU, wrong on macOS” — the special-bits article documents the ones we already know.

Missing features. Reasonable asks we’ve considered: umask simulation for who-omitted clauses (currently fixed at 022, disclosed), ACL display, a numeric→symbolic explainer panel. If you keep reaching for something the tool doesn’t do, describe the workflow — what you were trying to chmod and why — that’s more useful than a bare feature name.

Corrections to the guides. If something in permissions explained, chmod mistakes or special bits is wrong or out of date for your platform, quote the line and tell us the right behavior. Include the page URL.

Everything else. Broken pages, accessibility issues, partnership requests.

What to expect

We’re a small team and read every message. Reports with a reproduction case (“chmod u+X on mode 600 gave 711, expected 600”) are usually answered within a few days; general feedback may take longer. No ticket system, no automated replies — a person reads and answers your email.
